Bionic Boogie - Giant 45 Collection
"Bionic Boogie" tee is inspired by the disco group that went by the name of 'Gregg Diamond's Bionic Boogie'. With Gregg Diamond as producer the group released the mid-tempo disco stepper "Hot Butterfly" in 1978 with the late great Luther Vandross on lead vocals.
We're also paying homage to the 12-inch single record or Giant 45. The Giant 45 came into popularity with the advent of disco music in the 1970s and used as promotional 12-inches. By 1975 the new format was being sold to the general public and included longer, extended, or remixed versions of the original single. These versions were frequently labeled "12-inch version", "12-inch mix", "extended remix", "dance mix", "club mix", "special disco version", "disco 12" single" or "extended disco mix".
Music Fun Fact: In 1980 the legendary Chaka Khan covered Bionic Boogie's "Hot Butterfly" and released it as "Papillion (a.k.a. Hot Butterfly)" on her second solo album "Naughty".
